Rescuing civilians in a fire is one of the most important jobs that firefighters are tasked with. When the rescue of one of our own is the job, that task becomes much more difficult. Until now firefighters have had to use tarps, or a piece of webbing to assist in that rescue. Well times have changed and firefighters now have a new tool, the Tactical Extraction System or T.E.X.S.
The T.E.X.S. is a compact tool designed to give firefighters more options to drag, lift and carry. We all know the difficulty in moving an unconscious person and the extreme amount of energy it takes out of rescue teams. Many times one person is doing the majority of the work because of minimal grab or lifting points. The T.E.X.S. gives rescue teams more efficient grab, lift and carry points, maximizing the full strength of the rescue team. Fire Departments need to maximize rescue efforts and get the job accomplished quickly and efficiently by the first or second rescue team. Once again, the T.E.X.S. provides the rescue team with options.
When should a T.E.X.S. be deployed? Anytime you have larger structures or multi-story buildings. On average you can apply a T.E.X.S. in less than minute with zero visibility. You need to make up this time on the way out. Refer to manuals under the literature tab for more details.
How did the T.E.X.S. come to be? Coincidentally, we at RIT BAG were finishing designs for the R.E.D. A Lieutenant from Austin Fire, Brandon Wade, wanted to bring his idea to reality. At the time it was unfinished and needed refinement. He contacted us because he knew our quality and craftsmanship are excellent and he wanted to use our materials. Unfortunately, we were already releasing our new product.
However, after several communications everyone decided to work together to form a stronger product. It was important that our team design the next level of RIT extraction. Since 2006, we been refining and testing the T.E.X.S. Now, officially available in September 2007, it is ready for deliveries.
Together with Brandon we demonstrated the T.E.X.S. at San Diego, Indianapolis and Baltimore trade shows. Our response was excellent. The T.E.X.S. is your tool to create more efficient RIT rescues and start evolving training methods.
